Nishida Poem

Readers of this blog are, no doubt, familiar with the work of Nishida Kitarō as a philosopher, but were you aware of his poetry as well? Via the blog No Sword, here is a poem by Nishida about his hometown of near Kanazawa:

故郷之小川に遊ふわらべらのいなか言もなつかしみ聞く

furusato no/ ogawa ni asobu/ warabera no/ inakakotoba mo/ natsukashimi kiku

In my home town/ the children play in the stream/ and speak in local tones/ to which I listen fondly.

Head over to No Sword to learn more about this poem and Nishida’s thoughts about his hometown.
